What is the merge pdf?

This free PDF merger joins pages from multiple documents into one file. Use it to combine report sections, invoices, application materials or scanned pages, while choosing the document order and optionally selecting specific pages from each PDF. The merged file is created on your device, so your documents are not uploaded. This tool copies PDF pages rather than rasterizing them, which keeps page content selectable in typical documents. It is intended for ordinary PDFs, not password-protected files or repair of damaged documents.

How it works

Add at least two PDFs, then drag their cards into order or use the Up and Down buttons, which also work on mobile and with a keyboard. Each file is checked locally and PDF.js reads its page count and renders a small first-page thumbnail. Leave page selection blank to include all pages, or enter page numbers and ascending ranges such as 1-3, 5. A Web Worker uses pdf-lib to copy the selected pages into a new document, reporting page-by-page progress without blocking the interface. Inputs are limited to 100 MB total, 50 files and 1,000 selected pages to bound memory use. Encrypted PDFs are rejected; malformed or unsupported files show a file-specific error.

Worked example

Suppose you have a three-page cover packet, a six-page report and a two-page appendix. Add all three PDFs, move the report before the cover packet, and leave the appendix last. In the report's page field, enter 1-3, 5 to omit its fourth page. The result contains 3 + 4 + 2 = 9 pages in that order. Review the thumbnails and page counts, click Merge PDFs, then download the combined file after checking its final size.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. PDF.js creates previews locally and a browser worker merges the pages on your device. The files are not sent to a server.

How do I choose specific pages?

Enter comma-separated page numbers and ranges, such as 1-3, 5. Page numbers start at 1; leave the field blank to include every page in that PDF.

Can I merge a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are not supported. Remove the password protection first, then add the unlocked file.

What are the file and page limits?

Add up to 50 PDFs with a combined size of 100 MB, and merge up to 1,000 selected pages. These limits help keep memory use manageable in a browser.

Will the merged PDF keep selectable text?

The tool copies PDF pages instead of turning them into images, so normal text and vector content remain selectable. Some document-level features, such as bookmarks, forms or metadata, may not carry over; review the result before relying on it.

What if a PDF is damaged?

If a file cannot be read or its first page cannot be rendered, the tool reports which PDF failed. Try opening and resaving it in a PDF reader before adding it again.
