What is the jpg to png converter?

This tool converts JPG (also written JPEG) images into PNG format. JPG is a lossy, compressed format built for photographs, while PNG is a lossless format that stores every pixel exactly and supports transparency. Converting JPG to PNG is useful when you need a format that won't lose any more quality on subsequent edits, when a tool or platform specifically requires PNG, or when you want to add transparency to an image afterwards (PNG can hold it; JPG cannot). It's worth being clear about one thing up front: converting a JPG to PNG cannot recover detail that JPG compression already discarded — the PNG will look identical to the JPG, just in a lossless wrapper that won't degrade further. Because PNG is lossless there is no quality slider here; the output simply preserves exactly what the JPG contained. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your images are never uploaded, and you can convert a single photo or a whole batch and download them together as a ZIP.

    How it works

Drop in your JPG files (or paste from the clipboard), and each one is decoded onto a canvas and re-encoded as a PNG. There are no lossy settings to worry about because PNG keeps every pixel. If you added many files, a progress bar tracks the batch and you can download everything as a single ZIP. The converted PNGs are typically larger than the original JPGs — that's expected, because JPG's whole purpose is aggressive compression, while PNG trades size for exactness. Use this direction when you specifically need PNG; if your goal is simply a smaller file, keep the JPG or try WebP instead.

    Worked example

Imagine a designer sends you a logo as a JPG, but you need a PNG to drop onto a coloured background in another tool. You add the JPG here, click Convert, and download the PNG. It looks identical, but now it's in the lossless format the other tool expects. (Note that the JPG's edges won't magically become transparent — if you need the background removed, use the Background Remover first, then convert.)

    Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No — it can't restore detail JPG already compressed away. The PNG looks the same but is lossless, so further edits won't add more compression damage.

Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?

PNG is lossless and stores every pixel exactly, while JPG compresses aggressively. For photos, PNG files are usually several times larger.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

No. A JPG has no transparency to preserve, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. To remove a background, use our Background Remover, then convert.

Can I convert several JPGs at once?

Yes — add as many as you like and download them all together as a ZIP.

    Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
