How to use the Markdown editor

Type or paste Markdown into the editor on the left; the preview on the right updates automatically as you type, with a short 150ms delay so typing stays smooth even in long documents. Use the formatting toolbar to wrap a selection in bold, italic, strikethrough or code, or to insert headings, links, images, lists, quotes, a table, or a horizontal rule. Switch between Split, Editor-only, and Preview-only using the view buttons, or click Focus for a distraction-free, full-screen writing mode. Turn on the Outline panel to see every heading in your document and jump straight to a section. When you are ready, copy the Markdown or HTML, download a .md or standalone .html file, or use Print / Save as PDF for a polished, printable copy.

Your work auto-saves to your browser's local storage a short moment after you stop typing, so refreshing the page or returning later restores your draft. Use Clear saved draft if you want to remove it. Nothing you write is uploaded; parsing, sanitizing and highlighting all happen locally in your browser.

Common use cases

Open-source maintainers use this editor to draft README files with headings, badges, and code samples before committing them. Writers use it for quick notes and outlines, since the live preview makes structure easy to check at a glance. Bloggers draft posts in Markdown so the source stays portable between a CMS, a static site generator, or a plain text file. Technical writers use it for documentation pages that need tables, fenced code, and task lists. Developers and support teams use it to compose well-formatted GitHub and GitLab issues, pull request descriptions, and changelog entries without leaving the browser.

Why use an online Markdown editor

There is nothing to install: open the page and start typing in any modern browser, on desktop or mobile. It is private by design, since your document is parsed, rendered, and exported locally rather than uploaded to a server. The live preview gives instant feedback on formatting, so mistakes like an unclosed code fence or a malformed table are obvious before you publish. Auto-save protects your draft against an accidental tab close, and export options (Markdown, HTML, or print-to-PDF) mean you are not locked into one output format.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Markdown saved or uploaded anywhere?

No. Editing and preview rendering happen entirely in your browser. An optional draft is stored only in your browser's local storage so you can recover unsaved work, and it is never sent to a server.

Does it support GitHub Flavored Markdown?

Yes. Tables, task lists, strikethrough, autolinks, and fenced code blocks with syntax highlighting are all supported, matching the Markdown used on GitHub.

Can I write Markdown on my phone?

Yes. The layout switches to Edit and Preview tabs on small screens, and the toolbar remains fully usable on touch devices.

Can I recover a draft after closing the tab?

Yes. Your work auto-saves to local storage a short moment after you stop typing, and reopening this page restores it until you choose to clear it.

Can I convert pasted HTML into Markdown?

Yes. When you paste rich content copied from a web page or Word document, the editor offers to convert it into clean Markdown automatically.
