What is the png to jpg converter?

This tool converts PNG images into JPG (JPEG) files. People search for this exact conversion for two main reasons: to make files much smaller, and to get rid of transparency. PNG is lossless and often several times larger than an equivalent JPG, so converting to JPG is one of the quickest ways to shrink a heavy screenshot or export for email, upload limits or faster pages. The second reason is transparency: JPG cannot store transparent pixels, so when a PNG has a see-through background, converting it to JPG replaces that transparency with a solid colour. That's exactly what many people want — a flat white (or coloured) background instead of a checkerboard — which is why the background-fill colour picker is front and centre on this page. Set it to white for documents, or any colour to match where the image will be placed. Everything runs locally in your browser; your images are never uploaded, and you can convert a batch and download it as a ZIP.

    How it works

Add your PNGs, pick the background-fill colour that will replace any transparent areas, and set the quality slider (JPG is lossy, so higher quality means a bigger file). Each PNG is drawn onto a canvas over your chosen background colour and re-encoded as JPG. The before/after readout shows how much smaller each file became — often dramatically so for screenshots and graphics. For a batch, a progress bar tracks the work and everything can be downloaded together as a ZIP. If a PNG has no transparency, the background colour simply has no visible effect and you just get a smaller JPG.

    Worked example

Suppose you have a 6 MB PNG screenshot with a transparent border that you need to attach to an email with a 5 MB limit. You add it here, leave the background fill on white, set quality to about 85%, and convert. The transparent border becomes clean white, and the file drops to a few hundred kilobytes — comfortably under the limit and visually indistinguishable for a screenshot.

    Frequently asked questions

    Why convert PNG to JPG?

To make files much smaller (PNG is lossless and large) and to flatten transparency into a solid background, which JPG requires.

What happens to the transparent background?

It's filled with the background colour you choose (white by default), because JPG can't store transparency. Pick any colour to match where you'll use the image.

    Will I lose quality?

JPG is lossy, so there's some compression — but at 80–90% quality it's usually invisible for photos and screenshots, while the file shrinks a lot. Lower the slider for even smaller files.

Can I convert multiple PNGs at once?

Yes — batch convert and download everything as a single ZIP.

Is anything uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser and your images never leave your device.
