What is the json formatter & validator?

A JSON formatter and validator takes raw JSON text and either pretty-prints it with consistent indentation or compresses it to a single line, while checking that it is syntactically valid. Developers use it to make API responses readable, to shrink payloads before sending them, and to quickly pinpoint why a piece of JSON is being rejected by a parser.

How it works

The tool parses your input with the browser's native JSON engine. If parsing succeeds, it re-serialises the resulting object: for 'beautify' it uses your chosen indentation (2 or 4 spaces, or tabs); for 'minify' it removes all optional whitespace. If parsing fails, the engine reports the position of the problem, and the tool surfaces that message so you can jump to the offending comma, quote or bracket. Because it relies on the standard parser, validation matches exactly what your application's JSON.parse would accept.

Worked example

Paste {"name":"Ada","skills":["math","code"],"active":true} and click Beautify with 2-space indent. The tool returns a neatly nested, multi-line version that is easy to scan. Click Minify and it collapses back to a compact single line ideal for embedding in a URL or config. Introduce a stray trailing comma and the validator immediately flags the exact character where parsing failed.
